Principal Investigator
Associate Professor of Linguistics at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). With a background on Basque Studies and a PhD in general Linguistics at Universiteit Leiden, most of my research interests revolve around the following topics: a) constituent order in Basque; b) focus constructions in Basque (its syntactic and phonological manifestation); c) mismatches in the syntax and prosody of focal constituents, d) the position of finite verbs in Basque; and e) Basque complementizers. Currently, my main fields of study focus on the last three topics, namely, V2 effects in Basque, interrelations between prosody and syntax, and the analysis of complementizers.

I'm a professor of Basque linguistics at the University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU (Faculty of Letters, Vitoria-Gasteiz) and PI (together with Arantzazu Elordieta) of this research project. I’m especially interested in the morphosyntax and feature
composition of the
complementizers and how they interplay with negation. Other research areas of mine include the study of ergativity, noun phrase structure and nominalizations, and binding theory.
I live in Bilbao with my wife and two kids.

I am a professor of the Department of Psychopedagogy at Begoñako Andra Mari Teacher Training University College. I did my thesis under the supervision of Xabier Artiagoitia and I’ve colaborated with Artiagoitia and Elordieta. My research interests focus mainly on verbal constructions in Basque and verb complementizers.

I am a pre-doctoral student at the University of the Basque Country under the supervision of Xabier Artiagoitia (UPV/EHU) and Arantzazu Elordieta (UPV/EHU). My research interests concern Basque language, syntactic theory, morphology and word order and I like working with cross-linguistic and historical data. My current work focuses on the syntactic structure of sentence negation in Basque.

Lecturer of the Department of Basque Language and Communication at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). I defended my thesis in 2020 at the University of the Basque Country under the supervision of Xabier Artiagoitia (UPV/EHU). Basque language, microvariation, syntactic theory, modal particles and their pragmatics are my research interests. My current work focuses on the syntax of modal particles in Basque considering cross-linguistic and historical data.
